I’ve been doing lock picking, AKA “locksport”, since around Covid lockdown, so around 6 years now as of this writing. I did it some when I was much younger, but not very seriously (although I did manage to help my then-girlfriend-now-wife get into her apartment once when she locked her keys inside). I mainly started up with it to keep my sanity during those dark times. I sticked with it because, well, it’s really cool, it’s very neat being able to look at a lock as a puzzle to be solved rather than as a unpassable boundary.
If you’re interested, I can’t recommend it highly enough. It can be frustrating as you’re first starting out, but eventually it’s a really great way to challenge yourself with these little mechanical puzzles. Also, if you’re somewhat on the neurodivergent side of things, it’s can function as an outlet for some ADHD, plus a sort of tactile ASMR. YMMV.
